Desert Gardeners wants to help you grow a sustainable garden

If you live in a dry climate, you may have found gardening difficult or frustrating. Many of the tips for gardeners in other regions simply do not work for desert dwellers. That’s why Desert Gardeners exists. Here you will learn all about the challenges and opportunities of gardening in the desert.

Desert Gardeners was founded by Dom Heusinkveld, a gardener, journalist, and environmental scientist who has written about gardening in the Sonoran Desert for the Arizona Daily Star for four years. The aim of this website is to help all gardeners, in and beyond the Sonoran Desert, succeed, while growing plants in a sustainable way that does not take away resources from the deserts we all love.

The focus of this site is sustainability. We can all grow gardens we love while conserving water, materials, and energy. By using native plants, we also help out our fellow desert dwellers–the unique wildlife that calls this beautiful place home.
